To put it simply, Jeremy Jackson changed my life. He was my first and ultimately the best personal trainer I’ve had thus far.
I stumbled upon personal training by accident. My dad insisted I use my free session after joining a new gym in the city I was living in at the time. I planned on brushing it off, thinking, “I don’t need some jock judging me in the gym.” But my father’s relentless persistence made me use the session just to get him off my back. What I ended up getting was something I never expected.
I was paired up with this super-buff, insanely funny, surprisingly down-to-earth trainer who sat down with me and worked with me to set weight-loss goals for myself. He explained the steps it would take to achieve my goals from the start so I could understand and fathom the work it would take. Not only did he delve into my past to know why I wanted to get fit, but he genuinely cared why. He dismissed doubts I had about myself or those that others had, and told me I could do anything I really, really worked at. Having never been into fitness or nutrition prior, I was in for a shock- in the best way.
I was pushed to limits I never knew I had- physically and mentally. I began looking forward to the gym- both for the physical activity and the interaction with Jeremy. He knew how to boost confidence, crack me up, and push me harder all at once. I went on to lose 40 pounds in about three months. I gained more confidence than I ever had, both in how I was looking and feeling. He was always there to support me in and out of the gym.
All he ever asked was for me to put in as much effort as he was. To this day, he still keeps in touch even though he has not been my trainer for almost two years now due to us both moving to different cities. The lessons he taught me still serve me well, both in my diet and fitness routine. I have been able to keep the weight off and make life style changes to be a healthier me.
What Jeremy taught me is that people can change—if they’re willing to work at it every day.
