Our Story

On Saturday, September 27, 2014 the original concept for Wish Dish was born. Our founder, Bryan Wish, woke up around 4:00 AM in preparation for the Tennessee vs. Georgia game and decided to make a blog called “Influence” on wordpress.com.

Bryan’s first submission looked like this:

The Start

Writing for me is a release, an outlet I have used my whole life to better understand myself and the world around me. I have always loved writing, but I have always been scared to share my own work to the outside world. For me, I believe it is time to take action and dedicate my mission to help influence others through the power of writing.

One of my biggest frustrations is hearing how people are dissatisfied with their life’s direction, yet are unwilling to take the initiative to pursue the aspirations. I want to help foster a new mindset by inspiring others to learn from the tribulations and successes from the stories within.

Lastly, I want to preface my mission by saying that I have no idea what I want to do in the future, but what I do know is I am going to take the necessary steps to find my passion and ensure it’s discovery.
Play a role in my mission, help me create a movement, and be a member of my tribe.

This blog ended up attracting compelling stories from UGA students and influencers, becoming a fulfilling passion project for Bryan. While enrolled in an entrepreneurship class at UGA taught by Chris Hanks, Bryan’s classmate, Michael Gargiulo approached him after the blog was initially launched.
Michael mentioned to Bryan that he should create a website, but Bryan had no idea where to start. After going to multiple Society of Entrepreneurership meetings, Bryan found a partner in crime in Aalok Patel (Wish Dish co-founder) to help turn his vision into a living reality.

And the metamorphosis begins…

Once the vision for the website was created, Bryan reached out on Facebook to Nolan Keatley (Wish Dish Content Manager) and asked him to help brainstorm multiple domain names for the website. On November 6th, 2014, Wish Dish was born.

With the domain name set, Bryan and Aalok went to work on building the first generation of Wish Dish. For Bryan, this feat involved a huge learning curve but with the help of Aalok Patel, it became a reality. After two months of building the platform in November and January, Wish Dish was launched on January 1, 2015.
Since Wish Dish launched, the platform has received hundreds of story submissions, helped people in their job searches, and made it possible for people to connect in a meaningful way. We are excited and look forward to continuting to evolve and changing and influencing lives of those who interact with the platform.
